Fernando Alonso stated that his last-lap pass for third position on Sergio Perez was not his most significant overtaking maneuver during the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The driver of the Aston Martin said that his pass on Lewis Hamilton right after the restart was more important since it allowed him to outrun Perez in the Red Bull early in the race.
Alonso started behind Hamilton in the qualifying but lost ground to the Mercedes driver at the start. When the race resumed, Hamilton held his lead, but Alonso made a move and passed the Mercedes driver traveling in the direction of Descida do Lago.
Alonso claimed he could have fallen well behind Hamilton, who retreated in the early going, if it weren’t for that maneuver. Although his last-lap re-pass on Perez gave the race an exciting conclusion, Alonso claimed that his earlier maneuver was more significant.
Alonso remarked, “It’s obvious that the last lap overtake required a lot of commitment.” In certain areas, we were both all or nothing.
However, in all honesty, I believe that Hamilton’s overtaking into turn four on the first lap was the most significant of the race. My race was altered by it.

If not for that move, Alonso believed he may have fallen significantly behind Hamilton, who withdrew in the first few laps. Alonso insisted that his initial move was more important, even though his thrilling last-lap re-pass on Perez made the race fascinating.

To be really honest though, I think the most important move of the race was Hamilton’s passing into turn four on the opening lap. That changed my race.
