In a much awaited Week 9 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys, linebackers Micah Parsons and Nolan Smith will square off against one another. When Smith and Parsons first got together in college, it turns out that Parsons almost succeeded in persuading Smith to play football for the Nittany Lions.
Following his selection by the Cowboys in the draft, Parsons emerged as one of the league’s top defensive players. Expectations are obviously high for the young linebacker, especially with Parsons at his side. Smith hasn’t been able to make the same kind of impression in his rookie season as Parsons did in his first year with Dallas. It turns out that Parsons hosted Smith on his visit to Penn State and almost succeeded in persuading him to leave the comforts of his native Georgia.
Since high school, Nolan Smith has heard people compare Micah Parsons to him. In actuality, Parsons hosted Smith during an official visit to Penn State, and the two forged a strong bond. Smith added, “I was really close to attending Penn State.” I was only close to him because they intended to utilize me in a similar way to how they used him. They desired for me to replace No. 11. In the recruitment, everything sounded good.
In the end, Smith stayed in Georgia, where he was born and bred, and chose to play college football for the Bulldogs rather than any other team, but his bond with Parsons remained solid. Now, when the Eagles and Cowboys play in Week 9, the two gifted young linebackers will face off for the first time.
Despite having a rather sluggish start to the season, Smith has played in more games over the last two weeks. Against the Miami Dolphins in Week 7, he even recorded his first career sack. Although the Eagles’ defense already has a wealth of skill, if Smith can live up to expectations, he might make one of the league’s most formidable defenses even more lethal.
