Youngster Louie Barry of Aston Villa will be out for several months after he tore his hamstring during Tuesday’s League Two encounter between Stockport County and Crewe Alexandra.
After being substituted in the 25th minute of County’s victory over Crewe, the 20-year-old has undergone a scan at the hospital. Now, Barry has to have surgery before beginning a recovery regimen.
He was on loan at Stockport throughout the summer, and under Dave Challinor, he made a quick impression, making 14 appearances before Tuesday and tallying two assists in addition to nine goals. Last month, he also made history as the first player in the club’s history to score in seven straight games.
The Villa loanee faced Stockport in both legs of last season’s League Two play-off semi-final as a Salford player after joining the club on loan in the second half of last season. Barry had jumped up to League One with MK Dons last term after an impressive spell at Swindon Town in League Two in 2022, but only scored one goal in 22 games for The Dons.
His target for this season was to register 20 goal contributions and managed to record 11 before suffering the injury setback this week.

With Moreno’s signing from Real Betis in January, Unai Emery made him his first-choice left-back, pushing Digne down the Villa Park hierarchy.
Due to injury, the Spanish full-back was unable to play at the beginning of the season, which gave former Barcelona star Digne the chance to start each week.
Because of Digne’s outstanding play, Hutton believes Emery will stick with the Frenchman until Moreno can demonstrate that he is deserving of a starting position in the Premier League.
Hutton told Villa News, “Digne has played at a level where, if he sticks to that, he’s going to play. Moreno’s been injured, which is why we haven’t seen him recently.” “He does a great job of getting forward, which accounts for a lot of the width.”
“He’ll have opportunities, just like everybody else who walks in, like [Leon] Bailey, [Jhon] Duran, or [Youri] Tielemans. The manager will switch back to his preferred style of play if they don’t demonstrate their willingness to play that manner.
In 14 appearances for Aston Villa this season across all competitions, Digne has one goal and five assists.
Despite an injury setback, Moreno managed to make the bench for games against Legia Warsaw and Crystal Palace in September, but he has yet to play this season.
