This was evident in the chorus of jeers directed at Verstappen, the three-time Formula One champion, following his victory in the US Grand Prix last weekend. The animosity persisted as he accepted his trophy on the podium.

Red Bull’s new wind tunnel in Milton Keynes is not proceeding as planned, according to F1 commentator Sam Collins on X (previously Twitter). “The group has taken the proposed facility’s planning application off the table. which implies there is no possibility of a quick start to building.

It also implies that the team would be pushing to use any new wind tunnel for significant development on the Ford-powered 2026 car rather than using it for much of anything on the 2025 car. For the time being, the group will continue using its 75-year-old tunnel at Twinwoods, UK.”

Christian Horner, the team principal, compared Red Bull’s existing wind tunnel to a “relic of the Cold War” last year.

“We run out of a wind tunnel, which is a Cold War relic and actually a listed building,” he stated. The cutting-edge wind tunnel that our rivals have access to is not it.

“It was constructed in the 1950s and has its own limitations when the operating temperature at that tunnel is not reached at the proper temperature due to either extreme cold or heat.”
