Nathan Merritt, a legend of the Souths, has come to.
After being discovered unconscious last Friday, Merritt, a former South Sydney Rabbitohs player, has been kept on life support at Sydney Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
The 40-year-old is reportedly in a stable condition and has spoken with his father, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The former NRL star’s condition had’slightly’ improved, according to an update from his family on Tuesday.
Teanne, Merritt’s sister, cautioned her brother that he still had a difficult trip ahead of him and that he wasn’t out of the woods yet.
Other than close friends and family, like Bulldogs winger Josh Addo-Carr and Anthony Mundine, hospital visitors are not allowed.

It comes five days after Merritt was taken to the hospital by ambulance, when the Rabbitohs finally spoke out about his predicament.
The club released a statement saying, “The Rabbitohs and Souths Cares have chosen not to comment on his situation up until now out of respect for the privacy of Nathan and the Merritt family.”

Merritt is regarded as one of the best players in the illustrious history of the club. He retired from the game in 2014 after 237 fist grade games.
He began his football career as a youth player with the Alexandria Rovers in the South Sydney junior championship. He was born and raised in Redfern.
The father of five turned his love of the game into something meaningful after retiring, founding the Nathan Merritt Foundation, which serves as a resource for and advocate for Indigenous youngsters in Sydney.
