Due to an injury, Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack is unable to travel with Scotland for Thursday’s pivotal Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain in Seville.
The former Aberdeen player, Jack, was one of 24 senior players head coach Steve Clarke called up to the most recent international camp last week for future matches against Luis de la Fuente’s side and the friendly with France in Lille next Tuesday, but he won’t be playing.
Jack was absent from the Ibrox team’s lineup for both the 2-1 Europa League loss to Aris Limassol in Cyprus on Thursday and the 3-0 Premiership victory against St. Mirren on Sunday in Paisley.
The 31-year-old, who has so far earned 16 national team appearances and made his Pittodrie debut against the Netherlands in 2017, has now withdrew from the pool. Given his problematic injury history, the revelation will cause his club serious anxiety.
The defeat against Jack’s previous club Aberdeen last Saturday at Ibrox was the last straw for Michael Beale, the manager who had been under fire. Jack was replaced at halftime. He was removed without explanation, and it is unclear how long he will be out of commission.
For the first match following the international break at home against Hibernian on October 21, Rangers will probably have a new permanent manager in place, and Jack’s position at Govan will undoubtedly be in doubt.

Jack hasn’t been a consistent starter for the national team under Clarke because of his ongoing competition for a central midfield spot with Callum McGregor, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Kenny McLean, and Lewis Ferguson.
