On Saturday night, Michigan football defeated Minnesota. Here are the standout moments and our first impressions of another nearly flawless performance.
You may have questioned whether Michigan football could look any better than it did in its victory over Nebraska a week prior, but the Wolverines provided an emphatic response to that query with their performance against Minnesota.
When the timetable was made public, it appeared to be a trap. Minnesota is a difficult opponent and has won nine games in three of the last four seasons. Additionally, it was on a road.
Even more so, the Gophers made things interesting by cutting the deficit to two points just before halftime with a touchdown throw. But in the second half, Michigan football put on a show.
When he was taken out of the game, McCarthy had completed 14-of-20 passes for 219 yards. He also rushed for 17 and accounted for three total touchdowns.
Blake Corum had 69 yards but only got nine attempts. He had a long run of 40. Kalel Mullings had eight carries for 47 yards, including a 20-yard run of his own. Cornelius Johnson also caught a 49-yard pass that set up McCarthy’s first score on the ground.
McCarthy had completed 14 of his 20 throws for 219 yards when he left the game. He added 17 yards on the ground as well as three touchdowns overall.

Corum also scored a touchdown, moving him into third place in school history behind Mike Hart, who finished his football career at Michigan with 41 touchdowns. Actually, the defence scored more touchdowns than Minnesota did.
In the second half, Keon Sabb, a gifted sophomore, intercepted a pass and returned it for six points, ultimately ending the game’s competitive phase.
