Jack De Belin, a forward for the St. George Illawarra Dragons, is about to make an unexpected international swap in which he will play for a nation other than Australia.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the Dragons forward will be chosen and take the field for the Papua New Guinea Kumals in the season-ending competition.
This allegedly occurs after De Belin was persuaded to make his Papua New Guinea debut by Justin Holbrook, the new head coach of the Kumals. He participated in three games for the NSW Blues in 2018, however he has never played for Australia or on an international level.
It is reported that he has so far turned down offers to play for the Kumals. This included rejecting the notion of representing them at the Rugby League World Cup that was hosted in England last year.
Due to the fact that his grandmother was born in Papua New Guinea, the 32-year-old is qualified.
De Belin will offer a wealth of experience to the team and is likely to join players like Justin Olam, Alex Johnston, and Xavier Coates, who are currently NRL representatives, as well as Lachlan Lam, Nene McDonald, and Edwin Ipape, who were once NRL representatives.
