BirminghamLive’s latest Birmingham City news features John Eustace’s take on Tahith Chong’s injury in the Coventry City game.

Tahith Chong was stretchered off in Birmingham City’s loss to Coventry and was sent to hospital for an X-ray.

Blues were soundly defeated at the CBS Arena, where goals from Josh Eccles and Viktor Gyokeres in the first half left the Sky Blues on track to finish within the Championship play-offs. However, the game was overshadowed by Chong’s horrific injury midway through the second half.

The former Manchester United midfielder was left in a heap and required extensive care before being taken off the pitch. Chong left the stadium on crutches and will get an X-ray this evening to see whether there is any damage.

“He’s obviously taken a really bad kick to the back of his calf,” Blues manager John Eustace said. “He’s going to the hospital for an X-ray, so fingers crossed it’s not too bad.” We’ll have to see what happens. He’s been left on crutches and is in horrible shape.”

For the first time in his young career, Chong has had an injury-free season up to this point. For the first time in a season, he has played 40 or more games and has four goals and five assists in the Championship.
