Following Lewis Ward’s ankle injury, the Grecians are ready to make an emergency signing, while Lewis Page is also out with a hamstring injury.
Exeter City’s injury woes continue, with both Lewis Page and Lewis Ward expected to miss time.
The Grecians were already without Nigel Atangana, Rory McArdle, and Jonny Maxted due to injuries, but Page left the 3-1 win against Scunthorpe United with a hamstring injury, while Ward, although playing on with an ankle injury, is a concern for Tuesday’s trip to Leyton Orient.
Ward appeared to be unable to continue after collapsing on his ankle midway through the second half, and 15-year-old Harry Lee was undressed and ready to replace him.
Ward pushed through the agony to finish the game, like he did against Crewe Alexandra last season with a fractured arm, but manager Matt Taylor indicated afterwards that he will most likely be ruled out of Tuesday’s fixture.
With no senior fit goalkeepers available, the Grecians will be able to make an emergency loan signing, with Taylor stating that they had their eye on a few players, and the club had already asked certain free agents to come and train this week.
“Lewis got through the game but it looks like a nasty ankle injury,” Taylor stated. “His ankle is the size of my head and we hope it’s not a fracture but if not, probably will be a serious strain”Jonny visits a specialist about his knee issue on Monday morning, but Tuesday will be too soon for them. We may now sign a keeper on an emergency loan and search for someone to come in.
“We had a couple in this week to train, but it speeds up the process.” We can sign an emergency loan to see what’s available and if there’s a decent player who can help us if Lewis isn’t available.
“He couldn’t kick the ball at the end but fair play to him as he played with a broken arm at Crewe and for half an hour today with a damaged ankle, but I’ve got to bring someone in.”
Page (hamstring) is expected to be out for a few weeks, while McArdle (knee), Atangana (achilles), and Maxted (knee) are already out.
The Grecians went seven games undefeated thanks to goals from Joel Randall, Matt Jay, and Jake Taylor.
