Ben Harrison, an assistant director at Tranmere Rovers, passed away today afternoon at the age of 60, the club reported.

Harrison, who had been the chairman of the Tranmere Rovers Supporters’ Trust for 15 years, tragically passed away, according to a statement published by Rovers on Wednesday afternoon.

Harrison was a highly regarded member of the Tranmere community who was instrumental in a number of initiatives, such as the club’s vision for the futuristic “Tranmere Garden” project, which is scheduled to be finished later this year, and the distribution of food parcels to locals during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tranmere chairman Mark Palios and vice chairman Nicola Palios responded to the significant loss of a prominent club figure by saying: “In the 9 years since we were back at the Club, Ben became a critical part of the senior management team, a valued advisor, but above all a personal friend to us both. He played a crucial role in the Club developing a fantastic working relationship with the Supporters’ Trust, which is uncommon in football. As a result, we have successfully collaborated on a number of projects, such as providing food parcels to the local community during Covid and beyond, and the SWA2# community tickets program (now known as Nate’s Tickets).

The new fan zone, which was his idea and something that many people believed he would never be able to realize, is a perfect example of how big-dreaming and tireless he was in bringing those ambitions to fruition. Although he was constantly monitoring its progress right up until the day of his demise, it is terrible that he never got to see it opened. That building will serve as a lasting testament to his vision and persistence.

“Even though Ben became closer to us personally, he never shied away from challenging us when he had a different opinion. We really treasured his contribution because we knew he had the best interests of this wonderful Club and its supporters at heart.

He exhibited enthusiasm and compassion throughout his life. He was a courageous advocate for the disadvantaged as well as a brilliant and shrewd businessman—a rare combination.

“One of the things we always ask ourselves when we meet new people is, ‘Would you have them in the trenches with you?'” and the booming “yes” was in reference to Ben. He openly stood up for all he stood for, he accepted enormous challenges, and he charged headlong into them. In the words of Ben’s family, “He died as he lived, fearlessly and without compromise.”

Ben Harrison, our chairman and friend, passed away, and the Tranmere Rovers Trust learned of his loss with great sadness and a heavy heart, according to a separate statement they issued.

“Ben was a selfless individual who placed others before himself at all times while working diligently on Trust and club projects. He was the inspiration for a great deal of programs that supported the club and the neighborhood.

His unwavering devotion to the football team served as a continual source of inspiration for all of us. The Ben’s family has our sincere sympathy. We shall all really miss Ben.
