LAURELTON, Queens — Professional BMX star Nigel Sylvester, who has performed stunts across the globe, never forgot where his journey began — right here in New York City. Now, he’s giving back to the community that helped shape him, inspiring the next generation to chase their dreams.
Sylvester returned to Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens, where he donated a brand-new recovery room for student-athletes.
“I’m extremely excited. This project has been years in the making,” Sylvester shared.
A native of Laurelton and a 2005 graduate of Cardozo, Sylvester gifted the school a recovery room outfitted with massage guns, leg rollers, and Normatec boots — all designed to help athletes recover before and after practices and games.
The visit also held special meaning for his mother, Anny Sylvester, who expressed immense pride in her son.
“I’m so proud of him. Nigel has always had a generous heart,” she said.
His brother, Adrian Sylvester, echoed those sentiments, noting that their mother instilled in them the importance of giving back to others.
Principal Meagan Colby of Cardozo High School praised Sylvester’s generosity, highlighting how much it means to the school community.
“It’s incredible that he never forgot us — the fact that he returned and made this happen for our students is truly amazing,” she said.
