Akeal Hosein reached the top of the ICC Men’s Player Rankings for T20I bowlers earlier this week following his outstanding performance in the home series against Bangladesh. The latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings saw a significant shake-up, with the West Indies spinner claiming the No. 1 spot on the T20I Bowling list for the first time in his career.
The left-arm orthodox bowler moved up three places in the rankings, surpassing England’s Adil Rashid to take the top spot.
Overwhelmed by the achievement, the 31-year-old shared a heartfelt message on his social media, accompanied by a moving video.
“I don’t usually share stats, but this one feels special. Who would have thought, right? The boy from the hood, from Laventille, could be number 1 in the world,” Hosein wrote.
“Regardless of how long I stay at this ranking or what’s said, let this be a reminder that I made it… I am number 1,” he added.
Since making his debut for the West Indies in 2021, Hosein has taken 48 wickets in 55 T20I matches. In the recent three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, he delivered an economical spell of 2/13 in the opening match and ended the series with three wickets in two games.
