Team news as Stoke City prepare to face Hull City in a Sky Sports Championship clash on Sunday.

Ben Pearson will miss Stoke City’s match against Hull City after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season.

Pearson received a yellow card in a midweek draw with Huddersfield for a second-half scuffle with Jack Rudoni while attempting to win a throw-in on the half-way line. It was the 28-year-old’s fourth warning in four games, and his fifth overall in seven league outings.

He is the first player in the division to receive five yellow cards and receive an automatic one-game ban, but there are eight more on the verge as officials in the EFL adopt a harder approach this season. Josh Laurent has three yellow cards for Stoke this season, while Daniel Johnson, Jordan Thompson, and Luke McNally each have two.

It is a setback for Alex Neil, who is looking to get back on track at the bet365 Stadium on Sunday in a match that will be shown live on Sky Sports at 12pm. Updates on the availability of fellow likely starters Ki-Jana Hoever, Andre Vidigal, Ryan Mmaee, and Enda Stevens are anticipated later today.

Emre Tezgel will work on his match fitness with the junior teams as he recovers from a quad injury sustained in pre-season, while Sol Sidibe has missed the previous two matches, as well as a game with England youngsters, owing to tonsillitis.

Thompson would be on standby to replace Pearson in the defensive midfield role, though Neil might change his mind, with Johnson, Laurent and Wouter Burger, or Bae Junho as midfield alternatives.

Callum Paterson (Sheffield Wednesday), Harry Winks (Leicester City), Jacob Greaves (Hull City), Jannik Vestergaard (Leicester), Joel Latibeaudiere (Coventry City), Josh Windass (Sheffield Wednesday), Ryan Manning (Southampton), and Sam Morsy (Ipswich Town) have all received four yellow cards in the Championship.
