The 70-year-old Chilean was in charge of the Villarreal team that drew 2-2 with Rangers in the Champions League last-16 fixture in 2006 and advanced to the following round, eventually reaching the semi-finals before losing to Arsenal.
Pellegrini’s Real Betis defeated Celtic 4-3 in the Europa League group stages two seasons ago before falling 3-2 in Glasgow.
Pellegrini, who said former Manchester City and Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo’s fitness will be examined as he recovers from a calf injury, said: “I was here in 2006 and we managed to win and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League with Villarreal that season.”
“That experience is beneficial. We also played Celtic, and although losing, we qualified for the following round. Experience is important, but it is not essential. The players will be required to perform.
“I believe I have a good understanding of Scottish football.” It’s about emotion, direct football, fighting for every goal, and going box to box as rapidly as possible. The intensity of the game may not be the same as in Spain, but it is something we must consider tomorrow since they play 100% technical and physical for 95 minutes.

When asked about the weekend thrashing by Barcelona, Pellegrini responded, “No, we are not concerned.” We wouldn’t be satisfied even if we had won 5-0. All we’re concerned about is the upcoming game versus the Rangers.”
