South Carolina defeated Iowa, 87-75, to earn its third NCAA women’s title.

Tessa Johnson scored 19 points and Kamilla Cardoso added 15 as the Gamecocks crushed Iowa’s hopes for their first national title.

It was the final game of Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark’s college career, as she set Division I scoring records for both men and women and will enter the WNBA draft. She had thirty points.

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley was filled with excitement and in tears following the victory.

“I’m so incredibly happy for our players,” Staley added. “It doesn’t always end like you want it to end, much like last year.”

Iowa eliminated South Carolina from the tournament last year, defeating them in the Final Four. However, since then, South Carolina has not lost a game.

“I’m really proud of where I work, and I’m super pleased of our fans—it’s fantastic. It’s fantastic. “It’s unbelievable,” Staley stated.

South Carolina’s win marked the 10th flawless season in Division I women’s basketball history.

After winning the victory alongside her team, Staley commended Iowa on a “incredible season,” singling out Clark.

“I want to personally thank Caitlin Clark for lifting up our sport,” Staley said in a statement. “She carried a great burden for our sport. And it’s just — it won’t stop here on the collegiate tour; when she’s the first selection in the WNBA draft, she’ll boost that league as well.”

“So, Caitlin Clark, if you’re out there: You are one of the GOATs of our game, and we appreciate you,” Staley said, abbreviating “greatest of all time.”
