Brian Jean-Mary appears pleased to be back at Michigan. The seasoned coach was at Michigan for only one season in 2020, which was clearly the low point of the Jim Harbaugh era. Jean-Mary is back in Ann Arbour after three years in Tennessee. The Wolverines have won the national championship, and Jean-Mary is smiling and delighted to be working for Sherrone Moore. She also appears to be excited to work under defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.

.”We’ll start with Coach Wink,” Jean-Mary replied, smiling. “I believe he is the best coordinator in football. I’ll put it on the NFL and college. When you look at his resume, the individuals he’s trained, and the success he’s had, it’s clear that he has a wealth of information that we’re all benefiting from. I believe that the nicest thing that happens when you’ve coordinated and have had so many guys do it on defence is that you’re able to put the scheme together perhaps a bit faster because you’ve done it before and have had to coordinate out all 11 guys to fit in the image. I think, certainly, when we’re attempting to plan and organise things.

It will make more sense to all of the other coaches in the room since we’ve had to do it before, and I believe this will help Coach Wink because he won’t have to explain everything from A to Z because so many guys have done it before.”

Several Michigan assistants have referred to Martindale as one of the top overall coaches in the country, and it does not appear to be lip service. They all appear to light up when talking about Wink, and there is a broad air of excitement when describing how he calls a defence. Jean-Mary understands that it changes each year and with new players, but you can sense he’s excited by Wink’s attitude.
