The Bills have added to their secondary. Safety Mike Edwards has signed a one-year contract with Buffalo.
Because of their culture and staff, Edwards believed Buffalo was the best next step for his career.
“The culture, the coaching staff, they sold me very well,” Edwards told ESPN. “It promotes safety. They had two fantastic players during the last seven years. So I felt like I could step in and take on that responsibility, trying to become better and improve every week.”
Edwards most recently played for Kansas City, where he collected one interception, five passes defensed, two fumble recoveries, one fumble recovery for a score, and 51 total tackles in 17 games, five of which he started.
The safety believes that various qualities distinguish him from others in the position.
“I feel like my instincts are high,” Edwards said. “Just seeing where the quarterbacks or different routes might be coming in and setting up at…taking the ball away is the biggest thing for me.”
Edwards is on his third team, having previously played 58 games with the Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022, including 23 starts. During those four seasons, Edwards recorded seven interceptions, three pick-sixes, 21 passes defensed, 184 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.
When it comes to matching his skill set with a new squad, the safety is confident it will be a good fit after spending several years watching Buffalo from afar.
“Watching them from afar, it seems that they come together and play as a group,” Edwards went on to say. “They appear to always have their eyes on the football, as if they are attempting to keep all 11 players focused on it. I believe I have the potential to contribute significantly to this defence.”
