The Detroit Lions may have found a veteran replacement for left guard Jonah Jackson.
According to various reports, guard Kevin Zeitler is set to sign a one-year contract with Detroit on Tuesday after travelling to town for a physical.
Detroit lost Jackson, its starting left guard, when he signed a hefty three-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams last week.
Zeitler, 34, has played in 182 games and made the Pro Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens last season.
It will be interesting to see how the Lions handle their guard rotation in training camp, given Zeitler’s extensive experience at the right guard position.
Graham Glasgow, meanwhile, is slated to become Detroit’s starting right guard following a good 2023 season.
Zeitler, the 27th overall choice in the 2012 NFL Draft, began his career with Cincinnati.
The Ravens most likely made a deliberate decision not to extend Zeitler’s deal in order to save salary cap room.
During his 12-year career, the seasoned tackle has also played for the Giants, the Browns, and the Bengals. Last season, Zeitler fought knee and quad problems for an offensive line that improved its blocking for Lamar Jackson.
Detroit’s front staff may still look to the draft to add depth to the offensive line, as many analysts believe the class is fairly deep at the position.
