The former Blues midfielder spoke out against the club’s loanee from Brighton.
Andy Halliday believes Abdallah Sima is not suited to playing as a centre striker and should be used as a winger by Rangers manager Michael Beale.
The attacker on loan from English Premier League club Brighton has showed glimpses of his talent, most notably with his magnificent goal against PSV at Ibrox in August, but he has only scored twice in nine games this season. He did had a good game for Gers against St Johnstone at the weekend, going on as a substitute for Danilo after the latter received a terrible head blow.
And if he had been able to remain onside in the buildup to Kemar Roofe’s disallowed tap in during the second half at McDiarmid Park, he would have picked up an assist. However, Hearts midfielder Halliday was unconvinced by his performance as a simple switch up top for Danilo and believes Beale should remain to playing him out wide, as he has done most of the season.
“For me, and a lot of people may disagree from what I’ve heard, but I don’t think Sima came on and was overly positive again,” Halliday told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
“I think there are times when he looks really dangerous, but he is not a striker in my opinion.” With his back to goal, I believe he might be a little loose and not use his body effectively. But I believe he is a winger, and he is better racing into space and in behind. Could that work better for him in Europe? Potentially.”
