The Eagles’ running back room dynamic was altered on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft when they acquired D’Andre Swift and a defensive tackle (Moro Ojomo) from Detroit in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2023 and a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Without a question, the Eagles emerged victorious. Swift made a significant decision by moving back to his home city of Philadelphia. As a receiver, he collected 39 grabs for 214 yards and ran for a career-high 1,049 yards. He scored six touchdowns in all and was selected for his first Pro Bowl. Swift averaged 66 yards per game and 14 rushing attempts on a career-high 630 offensive snaps.

Kenneth Gainwell, who in his third season carried for a career-high 364 yards and added 30 receptions, and Swift made a nice 1-2 duo. Gainwell continued to advance in his early Eagles career, delivering 547 yards from scrimmage on 115 offensive touches.

Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny didn’t have much of a chance to play since Swift and Gainwell handled the majority of the running back duties. In the three games that Penny was active, he only managed 33 yards on 11 runs, while Scott only managed 20 carries for 86 yards.

Important RB Fact: This season, Swift’s 45.0% rush success rate was sixth out of all NFL running backs with at least 100 rushes, according to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats.
