Houston sports fans will be able to utilize Major League Baseball’s facial recognition ticketing service, Go-Ahead Entry, starting this weekend.
The digital ID procedure operates in a conventional manner. On an iOS or Android phone, anyone over the age of 17 can download the MLB Ballpark app and use it to snap a selfie. After tokenization, the pictures are removed.
The Houston Chronicle claims that it is also effective when used in groups.
An entry gate has been set aside for registered app users by the owners of Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros.
The app, which went live first in the city of Philadelphia, was recognized for its innovation during the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show. In Philadelphia, Go-Ahead Entry biometrics are paired with scanners from Evolv Technology that use AI to perform security checks without forcing fans to empty their pockets first for free-flowing entry.
Two other big-league baseball teams will use the biometric ticketing system when the season opens, with the rest of the league joining them during the 2024 season.
