It appeared for a little while that Kliff Kingsbury would be the next offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders. That is, until he made the decision to join the Washington Commanders when contract discussions broke down.
What exactly transpired is unclear, and Kingsbury is reluctant to provide many specifics. He was just formally presented as the offensive coordinator for the Commanders, and although he didn’t share many details, he did talk about the Raiders and head coach Antonio Pierce.
During his introduction news conference on February 15, Kingsbury stated, “I don’t want to get into the specifics but I have a tremendous amount of respect for the organization and Mark Davis and [Antonio Pierce] – huge fan of his.”
Although there doesn’t seem to be any animosity, there was undoubtedly a lot going on behind the scenes. It was a major surprise when Kingsbury withdrew because it was widely believed that he had already accepted the Raiders offer. Whether the Raiders just refused to give him the contract, or if the Commanders pushed for his hiring at the last minute, is unclear. In any case, Luke Getsy took over as offensive coordinator for Las Vegas, and they haven’t looked back.
The coaching staff has undergone significant changes even though the Raiders have chosen to keep Antonio Pierce as head coach. Several of the coaches have made the decision to walk on after being hired by previous head coach Josh McDaniels.
The San Francisco 49ers have hired assistant offensive line coach Cameron Clemmons from the Raiders, according an X post from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on February 15
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Raiders recently hired James Cregg, the 49ers’ assistant offensive line coach, to be their offensive line coach. The players enjoyed Clemmons, who spent three seasons with the team.
