Jesse Chavez, a fan favorite, left the Atlanta Braves on Thursday due to free agency. The Chicago White Sox and the 40-year-old reliever reached a minor league agreement, and the reliever will report to major league Spring Training.
After sustaining a shin injury, Chavez’s 2023 with the Braves was cut short, but he still finished with a 1.56 ERA in 36 games. Given the depth of the Braves’ bullpen right now, Chavez believes that 2024 will be his last season and that he will probably not play for the Braves again in Atlanta. However, given the Braves’ history, there is never a guarantee.
Michael Soroka, Nicky Lopez, Kevin Pillar, Touki Toussaint, Braden Shewmake, and Jared Shuster are now joined in the Windy City by the righty.
Ozzie Albies is ranked 66th out of the Top 100 players on MLB Network.
The Athletic awards the Braves a “C” for their winter transactions in their yearly offseason grades.
The Braves’ best prospect is Hurston Waldrep, per ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.
