The Trotters, who are attempting to make a comeback to the Championship, have performed admirably in League One this season under Ian Evatt’s direction. They are now in third place in the standings, with games remaining against first and second.

Goals from Dion Charles and Victor Adeboyejo have bolstered their good performances, but many fans will be disappointed by Böðvarsson’s lack of playing time because of how popular he is on the terraces.

Perhaps that is where he is most successful for anything other than scoring goals. The 31-year-old Icelandic international stBoðvarsson’s decision to stay at the club in January is appreciated by FLW’s Bolton analyst Oliver Jaques, even if Wanderers now have five strikers to select from for two starting positions.

Oliver told Football League World, “With Böðvarsson, it’s a difficult one.”

I’m a big fan of his, and he’s kind of a fan favourite.

“He’s a good player to have around, and I don’t think we should have moved him on in January. I think he’s better off the bench.”

“The problem we are currently facing is that since Collins entered the game, he hasn’t released any forwards, so we have a significant number of forwards, and he doesn’t appear to be deploying any of them riker has battled for playing time this season, frequently coming off the bench for late second half minutes instead of starting.

“Cameron Jerome, who I believe does a nice job for us and offers us something slightly different if we’re chasing a result, or even better – holding on to one, is someone Collins likes to have on the bench. Collins has obviously come in off the bench.

“It’s unfortunate, because I believe that one of those five or six will falter before the season ends.
