Marcus Foligno, the alternate captain for the Wild, left Friday night’s 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh due to a lower-body injury, and he will be out for at least the next two games.
The seasoned forward did not travel with the team for their two-game road trip via Las Vegas on Monday and Arizona on Wednesday. He also skipped a 45-minute practice on Sunday at TRIA Rink.
Hynes stated, “At this time, we’re just planning on him missing a couple games.”
Before being injured at 1:31 of the second period by Marcus Pettersson of the Penguins, Foligno, 32, was having a great game. He was especially aggressive on the penalty kill. Though he just played an 11-second shift, he returned in the third period.
After missing the team’s 6-3 victory at Florida on January 17, center Connor Dewar completed a second full session and might be available for the Golden Knights’ 9 p.m. puck drop on Monday.
Hynes stated, “I would think he should be ready to go if he responds favorably to today’s practice.”
Still, Adam Beckman was brought back by the Wild on Sunday. After Pat Maroon was placed on injured reserve last week due to a back issue that may require surgery, the forward was suddenly brought back into action.
In 39 games this season, the 22-year-old Beckman has 10 goals and 20 points with AHL Iowa.
Declan Chisholm completed his second full practice with the Wild following his waiver claim from Winnipeg last week. He will be played by Minnesota, but not against Vegas.
For the Wild’s match against Pittsburgh, Jonas Brodin recovered from an illness, while Hynes expressed his satisfaction with Jon Merrill and Dakota Mermis’s play over the previous two games.
“Against Pittsburgh, all six of the D corps had excellent performances,” Hynes remarked.
