Since Nick Saban took charge, the Alabama Crimson Tide have continuously been among the top teams in college football. Since 2010, Alabama has not dropped more than two games in a season, and since 2007, it has not dropped more than three games. Having advanced to the championship game six times, winning three of them, and making their eighth participation in the College Football Playoffs, they are the most successful team in the current format’s ten-year history.

The Florida State Seminoles’ exclusion from the playoffs was a hotly debated topic, but the Crimson Tide’s outstanding season earned them the last tournament seed. After completing the regular season with a 12-1 record, including a 9-0 mark in SEC play, Alabama emerged as the SEC Champions.

The Crimson Tide are still focused on capturing a national championship, but they were not immune to the transfer portal news that dominated college football on Monday. More than 1,000 players put their names.

In the 2021 recruiting class, Tyler Buchner was a four-star prospect that signed with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. For the Fighting Irish, he played in 13 games and completed 949 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in the passing game. Buchner had 459 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 82 carries while completing 56.8% of his passes.

Prior to the 2023 campaign, he joined the Alabama Crimson Tide through the transfer portal. In his two appearances, Buchner completed just eight of his 19 throws for 61 yards, with no interceptions and no touchdowns. On three carries, he added 20 rushing yards and one touchdown. On December 4, Buchner declared his intention to use the transfer portal. It is said that he will enrol as a lacrosse transfer.

Hastings, a valuable addition to the Alabama defence, signed as a redshirt freshman when he first entered the transfer portal in 2022. With his new team, Hastings will be eligible for another three years.

In the 2020 recruiting class, Thaiu Jones-Bell was a four-star prospect that signed with the Alabama Crimson Tide. With just 11 games played, he has only caught four passes for 19 yards and zero touchdowns. Since Jones-Bell was purportedly taking a medical redshirt year in 2023, he did not suit up. On December 4, he declared his intention to use the transfer portal.
