ORLANDO: Raheem Morris’ colleagues have been congratulating him on his appointment as the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for more than a week now.
Having worked with Morris, coaches and players have almost uniformly praised him for getting the new position, demonstrating that he is one of the league’s most well-liked leaders.
Cornerback Jalen Ramsey of the Miami Dolphins, who spent two seasons learning from Morris while playing with the Los Angeles Rams, has perhaps been the most outspoken supporter of Morris. When Morris was hired, the three-time All-Pro already posted on social media to endorse him, referring to him as “one of, if not the best coach in the NFL.” Next, during the Pro Bowl games this weekend.
“He is undoubtedly the best,” Ramsey declared on Friday. “He a good defensive mind, and really whole offence, he taught me so much, and he’s also a players coach he can translate, he knows relationships matter, and he’s probably the best I’ve ever been around.”
Morris, 47, is set to take on his third NFL head coaching position. He was the interim head coach of the Falcons in 2020 and the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011. Morris may not have had the best head coaching record, but anyone who has worked with him over the past few years will attest to his tremendous coaching development.
Ramsey thinks that the addition of Morris will benefit not just the coach but also the best players on the Falcons. Ramsey answered, “100%, 100 percent,” when asked if he thought Pro Bowl safety Jessie Bates III would succeed under Morris.
When hiring Morris, the Falcons took a surprising turn, choosing him over a number of more well-known coaches. But the Falcons were the team that at last gave Morris the chance he deserved, at least to Ramsey and a lot of other people.
