The Steelers, the division foe of the Ravens, seem to be looking to upgrade at quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement following the 2021 season. The team has struggled with uneven play at the position.And now would be a good time to replace him with another Super Bowl victor.
Russell Wilson and the Broncos seem to be having a very public and unpleasant split, which may help Wilson find a new home by 2024 and beyond. Pittsburgh is among the teams that the 12-year veteran’s arrows are pointing towards.
Wilson’s “best fit” according to former Colts coach Jeff Saturday was the Steelers, according to a recent edition of ESPN Get Up.
“The ideal candidate for Arthur Smith would be Russell Wilson. Saturday stated, “He wants to play under centre. He’s looking for play-action. He is an accomplished quarterback in every way. I understand the whole zone read concept, but no matter what he does, Arthur Smith can still lead to runs.
“On par with everyone… Additionally, there is a veteran player there who has won numerous games. He wins a tonne of freaking games, which is why I know people despise him.”
This season, the Ravens have suffered two losses to the Steelers, both by identical scores of 17-10. The first time, in Week 5, Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett found George Pickens for a 41-yard touchdown pass late in the game to win it all because of multiple blunders made by Baltimore. With 224 yards and one touchdown, Pickett completed 18 of 32 passes.
The Ravens rested most of their starters in Week 18 in preparation for the playoffs, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, a prime candidate for MVP. Mason Rudolph, the starting quarterback for the Steelers, completed 18 of 20 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown.
The Steelers quarterbacks’ respective stat lines are adequate, but Pittsburgh has struggled with uneven play under centre all season. Currently ranked as the No. 20 overall pick in 2022, Pitt’s hometown kid has not yet demonstrated the consistency the organisation is looking for, hence the Kenny Pickett experiment is headed towards failure.
In 12 starts during the previous season, Pickett completed 62% of his passes for 2,070 yards and just six touchdowns.
Wilson, who turns 36 on November 29, appears to be among the current generation of quarterbacks who are ageless and may still have a few good years ahead of him. His 12 seasons attest to his endurance, and his nine Pro Bowls attest to his abilities.
Ravens supporters may get to see Wilson again in black and gold next season if the Steelers manage to make it work.
