IOWA CITY In summary, Saturday proved to be a successful day for Iowa Hawkeyes sports.
Six-foot-7, 360-pound offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor of Des Moines and Southeast Polk High confirmed the rumours circulating the previous three days when he declared he was moving from Alabama to Iowa.
a significant win for the Hawkeyes, to put it mildly. As a first-year freshman, Proctor started every one of the Crimson Tide’s 14 games, including the final one, a national playoff quarterfinal. He was named to the Freshman All-SEC first team.
Yes, it appears that Proctor, who broke his pledge to the Hawkeyes last season to play for the Tide, would be a valuable asset to Iowa.
With a defence full of skilled veterans, a past playoff quarterback in Cade McNamara, a playoff tackle in Proctor, and an offensive coordinator full of experience, perhaps all Iowa needs to become a playoff danger now that 12 teams rather than just four will be attending the party next year is an offensive coordinator.
Who could be the OC? The answer is becoming more hazy as January draws closer to February.
Proctor watched Purdue University’s men’s basketball team, ranked second, defeat Iowa 84-70 on Saturday afternoon at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Therefore, the day in River City wasn’t ideal. Maybe it was just red, but Proctor was dressed in Alabama crimson when he arrived to the arena. Instead of the Alabama Script A, it had the emblem of Air Jordan.
Nevertheless, Proctor’s vivid red colour stood out among the crowd just as much as his stature. But in one sense, he was soon one of the crowd. He claimed to have purchased the black Iowa football shirt that he now wears.
A second, even larger man treated Hawkeye World less kindly. Zach Edey, a 7-foot-4, 300-pound player from Purdue, gave Carver a cruel sendoff.
With a score of thirty points and eighteen rebounds, Edey appeared to be a very talented big man. Additionally, he knows how to use his length and size against large, normal-sized major college guys.
You can whine about the Hawkeyes or Edey’s missed foul calls, but Edey wasn’t being outplayed and the Boilermakers weren’t losing this game.
Purdue is in second place in the Big Ten standings, trailing Wisconsin by a half-game at 6-2. But over the course of 20 games, the Boilers will demonstrate why they are the greatest team in the conference.
Iowa 6–10-year-olds This season, Owen Freeman has surprised everyone by being far more skilled than one might anticipate for a rookie post player. With two of Edey’s shots blocked and a 6-inch height disadvantage versus the Canadian’s skill set, Freeman took several heavy knocks.
For the rookie, there have been and will be many more better days. As the Big Man Whisperer of college basketball for the past few years, Purdue coach Matt Painter is pleased with what he has seen in Freeman, the six-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
