Waqa Blake joins St Helens on one-year deal for 2024 Super League season

Waqa Blake, an NRL player, has signed a one-year contract with St Helens for the 2024 Super League season.
With 165 NRL games and 62 tries under his belt, Blake will wear the No. 3 jersey for the team as the outside back enters the tournament.
He has played with the Parramatta Eels for the past four and a half seasons, and he was a vital part of their team that made it to the 2022 Grand Final.
After committing to St Helens, Blake exclaimed, “I’m really excited! As soon as Paul [Wellens] and Mike [Rush] gave me a ring to say it was finished, I couldn’t wait to travel over, especially to a fantastic club like St Helens. It will be exciting to move from the heat to the cold!
“To come to a club like St Helens where they’ve always been in the top four or top two, and then such a massive thing winning four-in-a-row, I’m hoping I can fit in, and we can win another one. I can’t wait to get to work after seeing all of the talent they have there.
“I believe the Super League is improving. I witnessed St Helens defeat Penrith in the World Club Challenge the previous year, and nobody would have predicted it.”

“I saw the Grand Final where Kevin Naiqama won Man of the Match, and I played with him at Saints, where he was really good.
“He told me a lot about Super League when we were in the Fiji camp, how special it is over there, and that Saints are a great bunch of boys, so I’m looking forward to it.”
“We have been on the lookout for a while now and we had other bits around the salary cap that we needed to sort; in retaining our own players, which is always important,” head coach Paul Wellens continued. However, this has also been our first priority, and we are thrilled to have added a player of Waqa’s calibre to the team.
“He is moving to the opposite side of the globe, and we are sure he will adapt and enjoy himself here. He is making a significant commitment.
“When our international players do that and play well on the pitch, we have a lot of success. We anticipate that he will be extremely driven and ready to prove a point that will only benefit our team and his performances.”
