Andalusia’s annual holiday spectacle, the enticing Christmas in Candyland, is enough to make even the greatest Grinch or Scrooge smile. This free, family-friendly event has something to offer everyone, so it’s hard not to have fun. (The weekend following Christmas, it will be open one last time.)

The crowds are filled with characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Peppa Pig, Bluey, and others, yet it’s not so packed that you can’t have fun. Regular performances are planned, and kids can meet Elsa from “Frozen,” Santa and Mrs. Claus, and other characters.

ouse, is a great place to start. “Snow” falls around the tree every hour, on the hour. It’s definitely a magical sight for those of us who live in south Alabama, where snow is an uncommon sight. Next to the tree, by Santa’s sleigh, is a lovely spot for family portraits.

A selection of the playhouses that add so much joy to children’s Christmas in Candyland can be found around the tree. The remaining playhouses are located in front of City Hall and Springdale Estate and can be seen by car or foot. Parking is available at any of the establishments along East Three Notch Road if you drive. You’ll get assistance from policemen crossing the roadway.

Andalusia was included in Country Living magazine’s list of the “30 Most Magical Towns in the United States” earlier this year for a reason. The lone city from Alabama on the list—which also includes Asheville, North Carolina, Branson, Missouri, and New York City—was Andalusia.

Mayor Earl Johnson stated in a news release, “We couldn’t buy this kind of publicity, and we know for a fact it has helped us recruit people to Andalusia.” “Candyland truly satisfies all of our needs. Having visitors to your city is one thing, but being compared to Asheville and other idyllic locations around the nation is quite another.
