Newcastle United have allegedly begun talks to re-sign striker Ivan Toney, in what could be a spectacular big-money deal.

Toney has been terrific since leaving St James’ Park in 2018, flourishing at Peterborough United before joining Brentford in 2020.

With a then-record-breaking individual performance in the Championship, he helped the Bees gain promotion, and he has thrived in the Premier League, netting 20 goals last season.

With his contract expiring in 2025, it appears that he will be on the move, and a number of Premier League top six clubs have expressed interest in the 27-year-old.

Newcastle are exploring a move for him, and are one of a few teams that have aggressively initiated negotiations with the striker about a transfer, maybe next summer, while Manchester United are pondering a move in the winter window, according to Football Transfers.

Toney is presently serving a lengthy suspension from football for violating gambling laws and is practising apart from the Brentford group. His suspension is expected to expire in January.

Should Newcastle bring Toney in?
Newcastle’s attacking options are now good, with big-money addition Alexander Isak thriving since his arrival last year and Callum Wilson continuing to produce off the bench.

Wilson’s contract expires at the end of the season, but it appears that Newcastle has begun talks about a new term for the 31-year-old.

This might be a deciding factor in Toney’s next move. If Wilson remains, there will be no need for Newcastle to try to acquire a striker valued at more than £100 million by Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

If Wilson leaves, Toney may be an excellent complimentary option to Isak, and the two could potentially lead the line together.

It is unclear whether Toney would be interested in returning to St James’ Park, but considering that Newcastle has begun talks about a trade, they may have gotten encouragement from Toney’s entourage that he would be open to a return.
