Nebraska is still working with the 2024 recruiting class and the transfer portal, making some noteworthy visits and offering some new offers.
After only a few days of the transfer portal opening and a week of the evaluation period, here are some additional notes on what we’ve discovered thus far.
Their Husker stories still have blank pages in several of them.
In fact, the majority of them are predicted to return in 2024, with center Ben Scott’s expected return being the highest of any player on the roster. Last December, he was considered a major acquisition for Nebraska. This winter, keeping him for another season is a big deal as well.
We’re not anticipating nearly as many portal additions as the Huskers had a year ago with the Big Red portal class Scott joined, given Nebraska’s roster numbers.
How did the first season in Lincoln go for those additions a year ago at this time, while we wait to see what Nebraska comes up with through this portal window? Let’s go over it again.
Billy Kemp
After transferring from Virginia, the wide receiver led the Huskers with 310 yards on 35 catches. He took part in 342 offensive snaps.
Despite suffering injuries in the midst of Big Ten play, he persevered and played 11 games. Although there were higher expectations for his stats this fall, no receiver was expected to put up ridiculously high numbers because the quarterback position is currently going through difficult times. He made a significant contribution by persevering through his injuries to the point where Jaidyn Doss was spared from burning his redshirt for the past few weeks.
Nine games were played by the Utah offensive lineman transfer, primarily on special teams. Knaak participated in five offensive snaps.
With three more years of eligibility remaining, he should be able to improve his game and potentially contribute to tackle depth. The discussion will become clearer once Bryce Benhart’s plans are confirmed, but Husker supporters are hoping that Benhart’s decision to stay indoors on Senior Day was a hint.
