Alabama upset Georgia in the SEC Championship and might have eliminated the defending champions from the playoffs today, throwing the college football playoff system into disarray.

You may have noticed some similarities between Georgia Tech’s game plan against the Bulldogs last week and Alabama’s quarterback run game while watching the game today. Last week, Haynes King scored two touchdowns on plays that were planned, and it seemed as though the Crimson Tide had picked up some tips from Yellow Jackets offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner.

Following the victory, Saban was questioned about it and said this:

“I’m not sure if it originated specifically from that game. Throughout the entire season, we watch nearly every game the team plays. You’re constantly searching for things that others have successfully opposed or that have caused problems for them.

I believe our offensive staff performed a really good job at that. to be able to execute some of those plays when we needed to deflate them and hold onto them until the very end of the game.”

Up until the Crimson Tide’s 27-point victory over the Bulldogs today, Georgia Tech’s 23 points against Georgia was the highest point total against Georgia this season. It’s not surprising that Alabama sought to incorporate a few of Georgia Tech’s game’s winning strategies from last week.

The bowl game that the Yellow Jackets will play in is currently unknown. For Georgia Tech, this will be their first bowl game since 2018, and they will be thrilled to be able to play in the postseason.
